Chief Operating Officer

Ivan is Secure Planet’s Chief Operating Officer, bringing 20+ years in biometrics and facial recognition and 12 years growing the company’s capabilities and client base. He leads go‑to‑market strategy and business development and holds master’s degrees from Penn State University and the University of Cincinnati; a U.S. Air Force veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, he was named the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Airman of the Year.

Ivan oversees the design, development, and delivery of advanced facial recognition products and biometric solutions for defense, intelligence, and force‑protection customers, with program support including PM DoD Biometrics, PdM Biometric Collection Capability, PdM Biometric Enabling Capability, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigations Division, and special operations. Under his leadership, Secure Planet earned Inc. 5000 rankings (#381 in 2020 and #306 in 2021; #11 in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area). His current focus areas include product innovation, rapid fielding, and strategic partnerships that scale standards‑driven biometric capabilities to operational users.

John Bowling

Chief Engineer

John is the Chief Engineer at Secure Planet and brings 7+ years in biometrics across enterprise platforms and mobile identity solutions. He holds dual B.S. degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University (summa cum laude) and a CompTIA Security+ certification. He is a co-inventor on 8 issued patents.

John has led delivery of the Department of War (DoW) Biometric‑Software Development Kit used across DoW programs, guided the BioCore® enterprise platform and FABIS Mobile app, and contributed engineering leadership on the DoW PM Biometrics Biometric Collection Capability/Near-Real Time Identity Operations program. John currently leads the development of the Secure Planet enterprise, focusing on standards‑driven biometric SDKs, facial recognition and mobile enrollment features, and building scalable biometric cloud services.

Lead Mobile App Engineer

John is the Mobile Application Lead at Secure Planet and brings 15+ years in enterprise mobile development. He is a published technical author, certified mobile developer, and hold a B.S. Degree in Business/Finance from the University of Minnesota. ​

John has led delivery of cross-platform mobile applications across multiple industries, such as Transportation, Food Safety, Banking, and others. John currently leads the development of the FABIS Mobile application, focusing on intuitive user-interfaces with effective integration with biometric recognition capabilities.​

Justin Metzger

Software Developer

Justin is a Software Engineer with Secure Planet and brings 18 years of software development experience spanning .NET and Java, with a strong background in the design and implementation of biometric systems. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.​

Justin supported the original USSOCOM ATFR Phase 2 SBIR by developing an application for body detection and people tracking, and has contributed to programs across biometrics, identity management, and C2/ISR mission operations. Today, Justin focuses on delivering reliable, mission‑ready biometric integrations and software that scale to operational users.​

Ben Rathbone

Software Engineer

Ben is a Software Engineer at Secure Planet and brings 7 years of .NET development experience with a background in real‑time biometric systems. He holds a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Texas A&M University.​

Ben supported the base‑year USMC ATFR Phase 2 SBIR by developing software to process RTSP video streams for face detection and tracking and implementing fingerprint capture and matching in accordance with EBTS v4.1 specifications. Ben has also contributed to Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) capabilities, including secure Cursor on Target (CoT) message transmission and mutual‑TLS (mTLS) client authentication. Benjamin currently focuses on standards‑aligned biometric capture and matching, real‑time streaming analytics, and secure TAK integrations for operational users.​
